Key Stage 1 – Classroom Support

Teaching Assistant – EY/KS1 (1:1 & Classroom Support) Permanent – Crawley We are looking for a nurturing and adaptable Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary environment in the Crawley area. The role focuses on providing one‑to‑one support for a pupil with additional needs, while also contributing to the smooth running of the wider classroom. About the Position As part of the team, you will help a child with higher-level learning and emotional needs to fully participate in school life. This includes assisting them with daily routines, breaking activities into achievable steps, and helping them build positive relationships with others. You will be guided by the class teacher and SENDCo, working collaboratively to ensure the pupil’s individual needs are met. The post also includes midday supervision duties. What We’re Looking For A warm, patient and encouraging individual Strong communication skills and a team-focused mindset Flexibility and resilience when supporting children with diverse needs Experience working with SEND pupils is useful but not essential Confidence in supporting emotional regulation and personal care if required Ability to follow structured plans and adapt tasks creatively Main Responsibilities Supporting Pupils Work with a child on a 1:1 basis and support small group activities Encourage positive interactions, independence and engagement Assist with welfare, first aid and personal care needs where applicable Provide calm, consistent strategies for behaviour and emotional support Modify resources or create simple learning materials when needed Supporting Teaching & Learning Prepare learning spaces and tidy resources after activities Help monitor pupil progress and share observations with the teacher Provide classroom support for behaviour management Assist with general admin tasks such as photocopying and organising resources Supporting the School Community Follow policies relating to safeguarding, confidentiality and health & safety Promote inclusion and ensure pupils have equal access to learning Attend relevant meetings, training sessions and CPD opportunities Support supervision at break, lunch and during trips or school events Further Information This is a permanent opportunity working within Early Years or Key Stage 1, depending on the needs of the setting. Duties may evolve over time to reflect the needs of the pupil and the school. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks and standard safeguarding procedures.
