About the Role
<p><strong>Metallurgical Laboratory Technician</strong><br />Location: Bath<br />Salary: £30,000 – £38,000 (DOE)<br />Full-time | 39 hours | Early finish Fridays</p>
<p>We’re looking for an experienced Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to join a modern and growing manufacturing business in Bath. This is a key technical role supporting the production of high-precision components used across aerospace, automotive, and power generation sectors.</p>
<p><strong>The Role</strong></p>
<p>In this position, you’ll take ownership of metallurgical testing and analysis to ensure materials meet stringent quality and performance standards. You’ll work closely with engineering and production teams, contributing directly to root cause investigations and continuous improvement activity.</p>
<p>Key responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Metallurgical testing & analysis (hardness, microscopy, tensile testing)</li>
<li>Independent sample preparation (cutting, mounting, polishing, etching)</li>
<li>Root cause analysis of material defects and failures</li>
<li>Producing detailed technical reports and maintaining accurate records</li>
<li>Supporting production and engineering teams with material investigations</li>
<li>Contributing to improvements in testing methods and laboratory processes</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Hours</strong></p>
<p>Mon–Thurs: 07:00–16:30 or 07:30–16:30<br />Fri: 07:00–12:00 or 07:30–12:30</p>
<p><strong>About You</strong></p>
<p>We’re looking for someone with a strong foundation in metallurgical or materials testing who is confident working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.</p>
<ul>
<li>Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or similar (or equivalent experience)</li>
<li>Proven experience in a metallurgical laboratory or manufacturing quality environment</li>
<li>Strong understanding of material properties, failure analysis, and testing methods</li>
<li>Confident producing clear, detailed technical reports</li>
<li>Methodical, analytical, and comfortable working with minimal supervision</li>
<li>Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration</li>
