The Role
As an Advanced Supplier Development - Project Management 4, you will work closely with Supply Chain Management, Program Management, Quality, Engineering, and the Supply Base to assess supplier manufacturing capabilities and capacity. Responsibilities include pinpointing bottlenecks, risks and opportunities that could impact the delivery or first-time quality performance of a supplier. You will help develop action plans with the supply base to improve throughput that meets Newport News Shipbuilding’s requirements.
As a supplier development expert, you will also be required to assess the marketspace using data and qualitative inputs to identify gaps and potential solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and foster supplier relationships
Evaluate suppliers’ capabilities, capacity, risk
Evaluate and implement strategies that lead to measurable improvements
Support suppliers in problem solving, process improvement, and risk management that aligns with on-time delivery and quality expectations
Determine specific causes or challenges with a supplier’s ability to provide product at the rate NNS requires
Influence and contribute to supplier selection decisions
Facilitate discussions with NNS, Navy, and supplier leadership at all levels
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 8 year of relevant professional experience
One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
NNS Apprentice School graduate
Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
Nice to Have
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as manufacturing, engineering, production management, project management, supply chain management or related disciplines
10 or more years of experience in Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and/or Supply Chain
Strong familiarity with manufacturing and operations and comfort in shop environments
Solid understanding of operations management best practices, continuous improvement, process mapping, and bottleneck identification
Demonstrated ability to lead change through influence and coaching
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Willing to travel 25%-50% of the time to support objectives
