About the Role

On behalf of DWP, we are looking for a Fire Engineer for a 12 month (Inside IR35) hybrid contract based in either Birmingham, Blackpool, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, or Sheffield. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. As such, we operate on a scale that is almost unmatched anywhere in Europe and most people in Britain come into contact with us at some point in their lives. Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to: Help people to move into work and support those already in work to progress, with the aim of increasing overall workforce participation Help people to plan and save for later life, while providing a safety net for those who need it now Provide effective, efficient, and innovative services to the millions of claimants who rely on us every day, including the most vulnerable in society Improve experience of our services while maximising value for money for the taxpayer. As a Fire Engineer, your main responsibilities will be: To apply fire engineering principles to complex buildings and fire scenarios to develop compliant and proportionate fire strategies To resolve complex fire safety issues involving means of escape, compartmentation and occupancy risk To review and where required challenge fire engineering concepts proposed by designers, architects and other Fire Engineers. To lead regulatory discussions with Building Control and Fire Authorities to seek design solutions for a range of projects active within the DWP estate  Providing support to the DWP Estates Team on fire safety and compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 across its estate. Assisting in the review, development and communication of overarching fire policy and guidance across the estate. Essential: A degree in Fire Engineering. Demonstrable experience within the fire industry. Knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Knowledge of and experience in carrying out or reviewing Fire Risk Assessments. Experience of conducting on site surveys of fire safety arrangements and passive fire protection measures. A working knowledge of BS 5839 and the requirements of this standard.
