About the Role
Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant – SEMH School Location: Hackney, East London Salary: £90–£100 per day Contract: Full-time, Long-Term Start Date: ASAP
Ever had that moment where you just get through to a young person who others have written off?
That’s what this role is all about.
We’re working with a brilliant SEMH school in Hackney looking for a resilient, compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team full-time. The pupils here need more than just academic support, they need someone who shows up, stays consistent, and builds real trust over time.
No two days look the same, but that’s part of the magic.
What you’ll be doing:
Supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs
Helping manage behaviour in a calm, positive, and consistent way
Building strong, trusting relationships (this is everything here)
Supporting learning in and out of the classroom
Working closely with teachers, mentors, and pastoral teams
Who this role suits:
Someone patient, resilient, and not easily fazed
Experience with SEMH, behaviour support, youth work, or care is a big plus
You’ve got a calm presence, even when things feel a bit chaotic
You genuinely want to make a difference, not just fill a role
What the school offers:
A tight-knit, supportive team who really look out for each other
Strong behaviour policies and experienced leadership
Ongoing training and development opportunities
A chance to be part of a setting that changes lives, not just lessons
