About the Role

<strong>Manual Miller / Precision Engineer</strong><br><strong>Location:</strong> Marston Green<br><strong>Salary:</strong> Up to £19.00 per hour (depending on experience)<br><strong>Job Type:</strong> Permanent<br><strong>Hours:</strong> Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 16:00 or 06:00-15:00<br> <br> <strong>Experienced Manual Miller Required</strong><br>We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manual Miller to join our specialist precision engineering  to join our client business.<br>This is a varied role focused on the manufacture of high-precision, one-off components and gears. Unlike many machining positions, this is not production or batch work. We require a machinist who can think independently, set up jobs from scratch, and work accurately from engineering drawings.<br>Approximately 80% of the role will involve operating a <strong>Bridgeport Manual Milling Machine</strong>, with the remaining 20% involving rough machining gears on an <strong>Okuma 4-Axis CNC Milling Machine</strong> once competency has been demonstrated. The components are typically small and intricate, with most workpieces being under 100mm in size.<br><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong><br><ul><li>Operating and setting a Bridgeport Manual Milling Machine</li><ul><li>Producing high-precision one-off components and gears</li><li>Reading and interpreting engineering drawings</li><li>Setting up tooling, fixtures, and work holding equipment</li><li>Clocking bores and workpieces using a DTI (Dial Test Indicator)</li><li>Using rotary tables to accurately position components</li><li>Calculating and working with PCDs (Pitch Circle Diameters)</li><li>Finding centres and datums to establish machining positions</li><li>Working with angles, including degrees and minutes</li><li>Carrying out in-process inspection using micrometres, verniers, gauges, and indicators</li><li>Rough machining gears on an Okuma 4-Axis CNC Milling Machine</li><li>Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and housekeeping</li><li>Following all health and safety procedures</li></ul></ul><strong>Essential Requirements</strong><br><ul><li>Proven experience operating manual milling machines</li><ul><li>Strong understanding of precision engineering principles</li><li>Ability to use a DTI to accurately clock workpieces and bores</li><li>Experience using rotary tables</li><li>Understanding of PCD calculations and centre-finding techniques</li><li>Ability to work with angular measurements (degrees and minutes)</li><li>Competent in reading engineering drawings</li><li>Experience working to tight tolerances</li><li>Ability to inspect and measure components accurately</li><li>Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail</li></ul></ul><strong>Desirable Experience</strong><br><ul><li>Toolmaking background</li><ul><li>Gear manufacturing or gear-cutting experience</li><li>Experience using CNC milling machines</li><li>Familiarity with Okuma machine controls</li></ul></ul>
