About the role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is passionate about supporting high-quality teaching and learning and helping every child to achieve their full potential.
As an HLTA, you will work closely with teachers to deliver engaging learning experiences, provide high-quality classroom support, and lead whole-class teaching when required. You will play a key role in delivering targeted interventions, supporting pupils with a range of learning needs, monitoring progress, and contributing to the planning and assessment process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality learning activities for individuals, small groups, and whole classes, including covering lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
- Work closely with teachers to plan, prepare, and adapt learning activities to meet the needs of all pupils.
- Support pupils’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development, promoting independence and confidence.
- Assess, record, and provide feedback on pupils’ progress, contributing to planning and target setting.
- Implement strategies to support pupils with additional needs, including those with SEND and EAL, ensuring an inclusive learning environment.
- Promote positive behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy and maintain a safe, respectful classroom environment.
- Contribute to the preparation of learning resources and maintain an engaging and well-organised classroom.
- Support the delivery of interventions to accelerate pupil progress.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to achieve the best outcomes for pupils.
- Supervise pupils during breaktimes, educational visits, and other school activities as required.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities, staff meetings, and professional development.
Pre-requisites:
- Hold HLTA Status or an equivalent recognised qualification, or be willing to work towards achieving HLTA status.
- A minimum of GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Experience of working with primary-aged children in a school setting.
- Experience of planning and delivering learning activities to individuals, small groups, and whole classes.
- A good understanding of the National Curriculum and effective teaching and learning strategies.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and promoting the welfare of children.
- An understanding of supporting pupils with SEND and a commitment to inclusive practice.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents, and carers.
- A proactive, flexible, and positive approach to supporting learning and school life.
- Good ICT skills and the ability to use educational technology effectively.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding the school’s values and professional standards.
- An enhanced DBS check and satisfactory pre-employment checks will be required prior to appointment.
