About the Role
<p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p>The Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division of Athletics at the University of Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Lifeguard (a part-time, wage position). Lifeguards work at both the Aquatic & Fitness and North Grounds Recreation Center aquatics facilities.</p><p></p><p>Lifeguards will:</p><ul><li>Supervise the activities of swimmers by enforcing rules and regulations</li><li>Attend and participate in <b><u>all</u></b> staff meetings and in-services</li><li>Must be willing and able to work scheduled university breaks including Fall Break, November, Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer</li><li>Must be willing to work some opening and closing shifts when available</li><li>Work a minimum of 2-3 shifts per month</li><li>Maintain scheduled shifts and provide periodic supervision of entire pool area, including locker rooms</li><li>Assist in cleaning and maintaining the pool and related areas and facilities</li><li>Warn swimmers of improper activities or hazards, answer any questions pertaining to pool. Be able to refer to Aquatic manager any outstanding concerns from patrons</li><li>Perform rescues of persons in distress or in danger of drowning when indicated and provide emergency care as needed</li><li>Notify the Aquatic Manager of any accidents, rescues, or problems that have arisen within or relating to the pool area, including any equipment that is in need of repair</li><li>Successfully and positively perform within work team dynamics</li><li>Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Aquatic Manager or of equal supervision</li><li>Serve University of Virginia and the Intramural-Recreational Sports Department in a respectful, professional, and positive manner</li></ul><p></p><p>Position Compensation: $16.00 - $18.00 Hourly</p><p></p><p>This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.
