We're Hiring: Experimental Aerodynamics Engineer
Full-Time | Core Team
LAT Aerospace | Aircraft
At LAT Aerospace, we’re building a clean-sheet Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft to unlock seamless, regional air mobility. Our aircraft push the boundaries of blown-lift aerodynamics, hybrid-electric propulsion integration, and rapid hardware iteration. We are looking for an Experimental Aerodynamicist who thrives in hands-on environments – someone who can design experiments, build rigs, extract clean data, and turn wind tunnel and ground-test results into validated aerodynamic models. If you believe hardware should iterate as fast as software, you’ll fit right in.
What you’ll do
Design and execute aerodynamic experiments (component, subsystem, and aircraft level) both in house and externally with partners.
Plan and conduct: Wind tunnel testing (2D airfoils, 3D wings, blown-lift systems)
Develop custom test rigs for blown-wing and high-lift validation.
Define instrumentation layout (pressure taps, load cells, wake rakes, PIV if applicable).
Work with DAQ systems (NI / MDAQ / custom systems).
Process and clean experimental datasets useful to create aerodynamic database and surrogate models.
Quantify uncertainty and repeatability.
Correlate wind tunnel data with both Low-fidelity models (lifting line, jet-flap theory, semi-empirical methods) and CFD (RANS/LES where applicable).
Improve internal sizing tools using experimental validation loops.
Support flight test data correlation.
What we're looking for
Strong fundamentals in aerodynamics (high-lift, boundary layers, stability).
Hands-on wind tunnel testing experience.
Experience working with key sensors including but not limited to pressure measurement systems, load cells and force balances, and wake measurements.
Familiarity with usage of flow visualization techniques.
Strong data processing skills (MATLAB / Python).
Comfort working with hardware — drilling, mounting, wiring, debugging sensors.
Why LAT?
No hierarchy beyond strength of ideas.
Rapid hardware iteration culture.
Clean-sheet aircraft program.
Work at the intersection of propulsion and aerodynamics.
