About the Role
We are hiring an Intern for our Laser System Architecture and Engineering (LSA&E) team at Lightmatter! We are a photonic computer company redefining what computers and human beings are capable of by building the engines that will power discoveries and drive progress in a sustainable way. With modern human progress relying heavily on computers, the world has hit a dead end with traditional transistors, and the prospect of constantly building data centers is an environmental nightmare. Lightmatter has created a solution in photonic computing: using photons instead of electrons to take advantage of their higher bandwidth. We build chips for artificial intelligence computing. Our architecture leverages the unique properties of light to enable fast and efficient inference and training engines.
Responsibilities
Design high-fidelity behavioral models for passive, active silicon photonics devices covering the fabrication variability and dispersion of the components
Develop and implement analog and photonics circuits in python to model the behaviour of Lightmatter Guide Laser products.
Develop a simulation framework with control algorithms to interface with analog and photonics models to assess the performance of the laser modules under various operation states.
Interface the python workflow with the AMS and digital verification teams as a representative of laser subsystem for optical link simulations
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a PhD program, specializing in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or related fields.
Good understanding of Silicon Photonics and Analog Electronics, by developing behavioural mode photonics and analog components using Python
Demonstrate problem-solving skills in problems that do not have obvious solutions
Data-driven and analytical; translates numbers into actionable strategies
Process-oriented and programmatic: builds structure through processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
