Job Summary
The Beltman is responsible for maintaining and operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. The Beltman must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed policies, procedures, and operator manuals.
Job Responsibilities
Responsible for the operation of front-end loader to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage areas, to feed conveyors, hoppers and to load trucks or railcars
Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader
Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front-end loader to force bucket into bulk materials
Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump material
Verifies amount of aggregate in storage bins and fills hoppers to ensure adequate quantity and quality of raw materials is maintained
Performs routine maintenance on loaders, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning
Participates in making sure the quality and quantity of raw materials meets established standards
Ensures assigned established performance indicators are met
Works toward improvement of the assigned plant and surrounding area
Follows established procedures to ensure that the plant for which he/she is working is in compliance with state, federal, and local regulations and requirements
Participates in on-going minor maintenance and visual evaluations of plant and equipment
Confers with plant superintendent, batch person, and other personnel to resolve problems, provide immediate feedback, and may recommend solutions to improve performance
Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
Meet or exceed company safety standards
Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; some technical, vocational or education preferred
Working knowledge of OSHA/DOT regulations
Prior experience required with similar or same equipment or machinery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to carry out simple oral and written instructions and deal with simple probes from standardized situations.
Ability to perform basic computer functions.
Basic mathematical skills, including basic arithmetic functions and common units of measurement.
Ability to read English sufficiently to be able to read information contained in manuals, regulations, and reports, including Safety issues and related matters.
Basic English language skills for completion of various paperwork and communicate with others via a two-way radio.
Working Conditions
Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors.
Must wear protective equipment while at the location.
Physical Requirements
Requires stationary position, traverse, move, transport, and the ability to significant degree to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, or position
Must be able to work at heights; climb stairs, ladders, and silos
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with employees and other individuals as well as function safely within an office environment and, on occasion, may visit industrial plant locations
Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order
communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning,
and/or pulling of controls.
