Residential Support Worker - Oakham

About the role:

Justteachers is seeking a full-time Residential Support Worker to join a specialist residential provision in the Oakham area starting in September 2026 on a long-term, temporary to permanent basis.
This setting supports children and young people with a range of special educational needs, including autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, and associated communication difficulties. The provision offers a structured, nurturing environment focused on promoting independence, emotional wellbeing and positive outcomes.
The successful candidate will work closely with residential and education teams to provide consistent support, helping young people develop life skills, build confidence and engage positively in daily routines.
Working hours:

Monday to Thursday: 2:30pm – 10:00pm
Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm

Key Responsibilities:

• Support children and young people within a residential setting
• Promote independence, life skills and personal development
• Build positive, professional relationships with residents
• Support emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour strategies
• Assist with daily routines, activities and evening provisions
• Maintain accurate records and reports in line with policies and procedures
• Work collaboratively with education, pastoral and residential colleagues
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times
• Support residents during transitions and unstructured periods of the day

Pre-requisites:

• Experience working with children or young people in a residential, care, education or support setting desirable
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
• Willingness to support young people with a range of additional needs
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Right to work in the UK
