As a Marketing Assistant in Penguin Press, you’ll help create impactful, creative campaigns that build awareness of our brands, books and authors — connecting them with readers in meaningful ways and driving sales. From big cultural moments to carefully targeted digital activity, you’ll play a hands-on role in bringing our publishing to life and making sure our books find the widest possible audience. The team Penguin Press is home to the Allen Lane, Particular Books, and Pelican imprints. We publish a wide range of non-fiction books across history, science, politics, poetry and memoir, from bestselling authors such as Carlo Rovelli, Michael Lewis, Helen Castor and Naomi Klein, through to debuts like Shon Faye, Gary Stevenson and Marie Mitchell. We are also the home of Penguin Classics, and Penguin Modern Classics. The role As Marketing Assistant, you’ll be at the heart of the Penguin Press marketing team, helping to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. You’ll provide essential administrative support to the team and key individuals, ensuring campaigns stay organised, deadlines are met, and no detail is overlooked. Alongside this, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting marketing campaigns and events - from helping to coordinate materials and assets to assisting at launches and promotional activity. It’s a brilliant opportunity to learn how standout campaigns come together, while playing an important part in bringing our books and authors to readers. Key responsibilities: General administration e.g. distributing mail, filing, organising prints, photocopying, maintaining office supplies and stationery, recording holiday and absence for the team and reporting this back to HR on a weekly basis etc Maintaining databases and updating systems Acting as a point of contact for the department, fielding phone calls and answering queries Coding invoices, raising purchase orders and dealing with queries Organising meetings, scheduling, booking venues and materials / equipment Providing support for meetings such as the preparation of reports, agendas, taking minutes and collating visuals / materials Submit materials for new books (e.g. AI, jackets, proofs) to Booksellers and Magazines as directed Liaise with internal departments to collate information Support the team with marketing campaigns and liaise with Trade Press where necessary Helping to update social media applications Supporting Designated Individuals (if relevant) Diary management, scheduling and arranging meetings Prioritising the individual’s workload via their in-tray and drawing attention to matters of importance Assisting the individual with email management Screening calls and dealing with queries Preparing correspondence and typing documents (this may involve copy and audio typing) Organising travel arrangements and preparing itineraries Dealing with other general tasks as required What you’ll bring Essential criteria: Demonstrable love of reading and interest in books/media Experience of using a variety of social media platforms Strong personal organisation and time management skills The ability to multitask and handle competing priorities Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of people Attention to detail A strong team player with interpersonal sensitivity The ability to work autonomously using initiative Disability Confident If you have opted into our disability confident scheme, the above are the essential criteria you must meet to be considered for our interview scheme. Hybrid working While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect the successful candidate to work from our London-based office a minimum of three days per week and offer the remaining two days to be worked remotely.
