Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (dependent on experience)

About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious, inspirational and experienced Head of Mathematics to lead a committed department in a secondary school in Middlesbrough.

This is an exciting opportunity for an established middle leader or an outstanding classroom practitioner ready to step into leadership. You will play a key role in driving standards, shaping the curriculum, and ensuring excellent outcomes for all students across KS3 and KS4 (with potential KS5).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and inspire the Mathematics department
  • Drive improvements in teaching, learning and student outcomes
  • Monitor and evaluate progress, using data to inform strategic planning
  • Support and develop staff through coaching, mentoring and CPD
  • Ensure a high-quality, ambitious and inclusive Maths curriculum
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, strong behaviour and engagement
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement and leadership priorities

About You

We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Is a qualified teacher of Mathematics (QTS/QTLS)
  • Has a proven track record of raising attainment in Maths
  • Demonstrates strong leadership or leadership potential
  • Is passionate about delivering engaging and effective Maths lessons
  • Has excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is committed to inclusion and supporting all learners to succeed

Desirable

  • Previous experience as Head of Department or Key Stage Lead
  • Experience teaching at KS5 (A-Level Maths/Further Maths)
  • Experience in curriculum development and departmental improvement
  • Strong understanding of data analysis and intervention strategies
