Support for foreign scientists and librarians Scholarships, internships, coverage of travel expenses and conference fees

The TIB promotes diversity and equal opportunities in research. It strengthens the presence of women in IT, technology and the natural sciences and supports scientists and librarians from regions such as India, Cameroon and Ukraine through scholarships, internships and the coverage of travel expenses and conference fees.

In the previous years, the TIB supported researchers from various countries and enabled them to further develop their work and network internationally. With these measures, it is helping to make science more accessible and inclusive worldwide and facilitating researchers’ access to scientific resources and networks.

At the beginning of the Ukraine war in February 2022, TIB launched a scholarship programme for refugees from Ukraine, offering them protection and support as guest researchers in Hannover. TIB is also involved in projects with German and Ukrainian partners:

• “Digital University – Open Ukrainian Iniative” (DigiUni): Establishing a digital infrastructure at Ukrainian universities for online teaching
• “Documenting Ukrainian Cultural Heritage”: Photographic documentation of war-threatened buildings in Ukraine
• „EPP UA“ (Electronic Preservation Project for Ukrainian OA journals of TIB relevant subjects: Safeguarding Ukrainian open access journals to ensure their accessibility for future generations of researchers
