About the role:
justteachers are seeking a committed SEMH Support Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Peterborough that supports pupils with SEMH needs, alongside associated learning difficulties such as autism.
This full-time role involves working within a structured and supportive environment where there is a strong emphasis on behaviour support, routine, and therapeutic approaches to learning. The setting provides tailored education to pupils who benefit from smaller class sizes, consistent support, and a focus on emotional regulation and personal development.
You will play a key role in helping pupils engage with education, manage behaviour positively, and build the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies and individual plans
Assist pupils in developing emotional regulation and coping strategies
Work closely with teaching staff to deliver structured and engaging learning activities
Build strong, trusting relationships to support pupil engagement and wellbeing
Support pupils during challenging situations, maintaining a calm and consistent approach
Encourage the development of social skills, independence, and resilience
Monitor and report on pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
Pre-requisites:
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
A calm, patient, and resilient approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build positive, professional relationships with pupils
Confidence in managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour
A proactive and adaptable attitude
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
