Job Title: Dimensional Checker – Structural Steel Location: Tigard, OR Pay: DOE Schedule: Day Shift Monday–Thursday, 6am–4:30pm Who We Are: Our client is AISC-certified structural steel fabricator specializing in complex bridge and building projects. Our work spans AWS D1.1, D1.5, and D1.8 codes and includes fracture-critical fabrication for DOT and major infrastructure clients. What You’ll Do: This position is ideal for someone with strong structural steel layout experience and a sharp eye for accuracy. The Dimensional Checker is responsible for verifying that fabricated parts and assemblies meet all drawing, code, and project-specific dimensional requirements. You’ll work directly with the QC team, fabrication leads, and project management to ensure components are compliant before moving downstream in production. Key Responsibilities: Perform dimensional inspections on structural steel parts, assemblies, and bridge components. Check hole diameters, spacing, and bolt patterns using calibrated gauges and measurement tools. Pull, run, and verify tape-measure dimensions for lengths, heights, web/flange sizes, and layout features. Use calipers, squares, micrometers, and other precision tools to validate critical dimensions. Verify parts against shop drawings, weld symbols, and project specifications. Identify and document nonconformities; communicate findings with shop leads and QC. Maintain accurate inspection records in accordance with AISC and project documentation requirements. Support internal audits, hold points, and dimensional verification steps per QC processes. Collaborate with fabrication teams to resolve layout or fit-up discrepancies. What You Need to Have: 2+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication, layout, or dimensional inspection. Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and specifications. Proficiency with tape measures, calipers, micrometers, squares, and related measurement tools. High attention to detail with the ability to catch dimensional discrepancies quickly. Solid communication skills and the ability to work closely with QC, fabrication, and welding teams. Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining accuracy and safety. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and able to pass a background and drug screening. Preferred: Prior experience in AISC-certified fabrication environments. Familiarity with DOT bridge work or fracture-critical projects. Understanding of AWS and AISC fabrication practices.
