Role Overview — Mutual to All Three Roles</strong></p><p><strong>All three roles are designed for experienced Registered Nurses functioning as clinical and professional leaders</strong> with accountability for patient outcomes, quality, safety, and advancement of nursing practice. Responsibilities Shared by Transport Nurse Specialist Roles Only</strong></p><p><em>(CN II & SCN I)</em></p><p><strong>These responsibilities do not apply</strong> to MC Senior Clinical Nurse II.</p><p><strong>Transport-Specific Clinical Practice</strong></p><ul><li>Provide high-acuity critical care during ground/surface transport in non-traditional settings (ambulance).</li><li>Manage complex, critically ill patients using advanced life-sustaining therapies and equipment.</li><li>Function under MEC clinical guidelines, MIEMSS protocols, and Maryland Board of Nursing authority.</li><li>Collaborate with Access Center, sending and receiving facilities, and medical direction.</li><li>Maintain transport unit readiness and ensure safe transport environment.</li><li>Respond to emergent transport and scene responses when required.</li><li>Deliver comprehensive handoff reports reflecting patient status throughout transport.</li></ul><p><strong>Transport-Specific Education & Certification</strong></p><ul><li>Maintain transport-specific competencies, certifications, and mandatory training.</li><li>Participate in simulation-based and high-fidelity skills training.</li><li>Maintain MIEMSS and emergency preparedness requirements.</li></ul><p style="text-align: center;"><br></p><p><strong>A. Transport Nurse Specialist – CN II</strong></p><p><strong>Primary Focus:</strong></p><p><strong> Independent high-acuity transport practice with clinical expertise and operational contribution</strong> at the practice-setting level.</p><p><strong>Distinct Expectations:</strong></p><ul><li>Independently provides, directs, and coordinates transport care.</li><li>Performs advanced invasive and life-saving procedures (e.g., airway management, ECMO/IABP management, thoracostomy).</li><li>Functions as a clinical resource within the transport team.</li><li>Participates (but does not lead at system level) in governance, PI, and protocol development.</li><li>Performs charge role as needed.</li><li>Assists with readiness for MIEMSS and regulatory reviews.</li><li>Required/Preferred certifications include ACLS, BCLS, CCRN, CFRN/CTRN, PALS, NRP.</li></ul><p style="text-align: center;"><br></p><p><strong>B. Transport Nurse Specialist – SCN I</strong></p><p><strong>Primary Focus:</strong></p><p><strong> Practice-setting leadership</strong> within Maryland ExpressCare transport program.</p><p><strong>Distinct Expectations (Beyond CN II):</strong></p><ul><li>Leads practice-setting clinical, professional development, and quality governance.</li><li>Oversees patient education, competency validation, and orientation programs.</li><li>Mentors transport nurses and paramedics, including those in leadership roles.</li><li>Leads NSQI, PI, service recovery, and quality management initiatives.</li><li>Participates in hiring, promotion review, financial awareness, and staffing decisions.</li><li>Leads regulatory readiness and practice-setting operations.</li><li>Accountable for quality, cost effectiveness, and outcomes at the practice-setting level.</li></ul><p style="text-align: center;"><br></p><p><strong>C. Senior Clinical Nurse II</strong></p><p><strong>Primary Focus:</strong></p><p><strong> Clinical and professional leadership beyond the unit level</strong> (non-transport).</p><p><strong>Distinct Expectations:</strong></p><ul><li>Provides expert clinical care within a unit-based specialty (e.g., ICU, ED).</li><li>Leads and evaluates evidence-based practice and research initiatives beyond the unit.</li><li>Serves as clinical expert and mentor for nurses across units.</li><li>Leads divisional, organizational, and professional initiatives and councils.</li><li>Evaluates and mentors charge nurses; improves charge role effectiveness.</li><li>Oversees regulatory compliance integration at unit/division level.</li><li>Leads Healthy Work Environment initiatives.</li><li>Required BSN, CPR, professional organization membership, and recent applicable clinical experience.</li></ul><br><br><strong>Work Experience </strong><br><h3><strong>V.
