Mechanical Design & Service Engineer<br><strong>Salary:</strong> £38,000 - £65,000 per annum (depending on experience)<br><strong>Location:</strong> Swadlincote, Derbyshire<br><strong>Hours:</strong> Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm<br><br>Our client is a well-established engineering business specialising in material handling solutions. They are looking to recruit an experienced <strong>Mechanical Design & Service Engineer</strong> to join their Engineering Division based in Swadlincote.<br>This is a unique hybrid role combining office-based mechanical design with hands-on site inspections, engineering diagnostics and client-facing technical support. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering engineering solutions, supporting refurbishment projects and building strong customer relationships across the UK.<br>Whether you're an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer looking to broaden your responsibilities or a Senior Applications Engineer seeking a varied technical role, this opportunity offers excellent career prospects within a specialist engineering business.<br><br>The Role<br>Working as part of the Engineering Division, you will divide your time between the office and customer sites, taking responsibility for:<br><ul><li>Producing 2D and 3D CAD designs using SolidWorks, Inventor and AutoCAD.</li><ul><li>Designing industrial machinery and structural steelwork.</li><li>Carrying out site inspections, engineering surveys and equipment assessments.</li><li>Diagnosing mechanical failures, structural issues and equipment wear.</li><li>Performing engineering calculations, including torque, motor power, gear ratios and belt tensions.</li><li>Supporting customers with technical enquiries and developing engineering solutions.</li><li>Producing detailed technical reports with clear recommendations.</li><li>Working closely with clients to support refurbishment projects and ongoing engineering requirements.</li></ul></ul>About You<br>We're looking for an engineer who has:<br><ul><li>A BEng or MEng in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.</li><ul><li>Experience designing industrial machinery or structural steelwork.</li><li>Strong CAD skills using Solid Works and/or Autodesk Inventor, together with AutoCAD.</li><li>Knowledge of drive systems, power transmission and mechanical calculations.</li><li>Experience carrying out site surveys and fault-finding within heavy industrial environments.</li><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex engineering issues clearly.</li><li>Experience of structural calculations and stress analysis, with FEA experience advantageous.</li><li>A valid CCNSG Safety Passport (or equivalent) is desirable.</li><li>A full UK driving licence, as regular travel throughout the UK is required.</li></ul></ul>Salary & Benefits<br>Salary is dependent on experience, with a range of <strong>£38,000 to £65,000 per annum</strong> available for the right candidate.<br>Benefits include:<br><ul><li>Company car or car allowance</li><ul><li>Performance-related bonus or profit share</li><li>Private medical insurance</li><li>Laptop and smartphone</li><li>Funded professional membership fees (including IMechE where applicable)</li><li>Ongoing training and professional development</li><li>Opportunities to work on technically challenging projects across the UK</li></ul></ul>If you're looking for a varied engineering role that combines mechanical design, field service, technical consultancy and customer interaction, we'd love to hear from you.
