Today is your last chance to share your views to help shape Barnsley’s UK Town of Culture bid.
Cultural organisations are working together on a bid for Barnsley to become UK Town of Culture 2028 and secure the £3 million prize to deliver a transformational cultural programme.
Winning #TownOfCulture would be an opportunity to recognise and build on the wealth of creativity already happening right across the borough.
Please fill in our short survey which closes at 11.59pm tonight, Sunday 15 March: https://lnkd.in/evtAFifH

Last Thursday (5 March) we held a private opening for the new Cleopatra and the Queens of Egypt exhibition at Experience Barnsley.
Funded by Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust, it was a chance for invited guests to have an exclusive first look at the mesmerising displays and uncover the surprising links between ancient Egypt and Barnsley.
As part of the evening, there were speeches from Professor Jo Fletcher, who designed and curated the exhibition, as well as Mayor of Barnsley Cllr David Leech and Dr Carl Graves, director of The Egypt Exploration Society.
It was fantastic to welcome partners, supporters, and volunteers for this celebration ahead of the public opening.
The exhibition is now open and runs until February 2027 and is free to visit during Experience Barnsley opening hours.

A business rates valuation account is the best way to keep track of changes to your property’s business rates valuation which might lead to changes to your tax bill.
You can use it to check the details we hold and let us know if something is wrong.
You have until Tuesday 31 March 2026 to request a change to your current valuation by checking the details the Valuation Office Agency hold on your property. If you don’t already have an account, or haven’t used one for some time, it can take 15 days to register and link your properties.
Sign up today to stay ahead of the deadline: https://lnkd.in/ebU2wPYA

Joining Forces brings together our Safer Neighbourhoods service, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, and Berneslai Homes.
By working side by side, this partnership tackles anti-social behaviour and helps keep neighbourhoods safe.
The expansion includes two additional neighbourhood wardens and an Investigating Officer to lead high-profile cases. We’ve also introduced a public space protection order in our town centre.
The team have already been working in New Lodge, Athersley North and Cudworth Park. Thanks to their work, there have been fewer anti-social behaviour incidents reported, and eight young people and their parents have been issued with warning.
To report anti-social behaviour in Barnsley, email the team at safer@barnsley.gov.uk.

We're now into the final stages of our preparation for the opening of The Seam Digital Campus, which will take place on the evening of Monday 23 March.
The testing of the light and sound capabilities of the Yorkshire Rose sculptures has been ongoing for several weeks and the public realm is really coming together as the excitement builds for the opening event.
The Roses will be a stunning new visitor and cultural attraction and a symbol of our new Tech Town status, standing proudly above a newly-regenerated area for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you so much to Local Government Association for featuring our shared reading pilot with Barnsley Council on their website during their Public Health Conference with the The Association Of Directors of Public Health (UK).
As part of our #ReadingRights campaign, we're working with local services in the Dearne to integrate shared reading into public health pathways.
We want to:
⭐ Provide families with lifelong benefits through shared reading from the earliest years
⭐ Train health and community professionals to deliver messaging on the importance of early reading and to model shared reading for families
⭐ Increase access to library cards and BookTrust books and support for children and families in the Dearne
⭐ Create a replicable cross-sector collaborative model for other local authorities
🔗 Find out how we're working with our partners in Barnsley to do this - and what we've learned so far - in the blog 👉 https://lnkd.in/ep_XqcX2
👀 And stay tuned as we share more from the pilot and the #ReadingRights campaign in the coming months!

We're proposing a major £18.289 million investment in the borough’s highway network for 2026-2027.
The Highways Capital Programme outlines the structural and preventative maintenance we will be undertaking, including resurfacing, footway improvements, drainage upgrades, lighting and sign renewals, and essential work on bridges and structures.
It also includes nearly £1 million for planned improvements to traffic signals, road safety schemes and active travel routes, supporting smoother journeys, improved safety and healthier travel choices.

Getting ready for World Social Work Day 2026 🌍
In just one week’s time, on 17 March, we’ll be marking World Social Work Day 2026 by shining a light on the incredible work of our Children’s Social Workers.
Across the borough, our teams will be coming together to learn, connect and influence change, while also taking time to celebrate the positive difference they make every day for children and families.
This year’s theme, “Co‑Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society,” highlights the vital role social work plays in bringing people together across communities, cultures and systems — helping to shape a more inclusive, compassionate and sustainable future.
There will be a range of national and local events, activities and online opportunities taking place throughout the week, offering space to reflect, share learning, and champion the profession.
A huge thank you to all our social workers for the commitment, care and courage you show every day. 💙
Barnsley is an exceptional place to be a children’s social worker. Explore the possibilities here: https://bit.ly/45Z3vwp
