Working pattern: Hybrid - 3 days in the office, 2 days WFH
Salary: £26,000 - £30,000 per annum
Experience: Graduate / early career / limited commercial experience
About the role
We’re looking for a Junior Full Stack Developer to join an Edinburgh-based development team working on technology that helps protect people from gambling harm.
This is an opportunity for a graduate or early-career developer who already has some practical coding experience and wants to build a career in professional software development.
You don't need years of commercial experience. We’re particularly interested in people who have built things themselves, whether that's university projects, side projects, personal apps, open-source contributions or something you've created simply because you wanted to solve a problem.
You'll work alongside experienced developers, contributing to real products and solving real customer problems from day one.
This isn't a role where you'll spend months following tutorials before touching real software. You'll be expected to get involved, ask questions, learn quickly and contribute.
What you'll be doing:
Your days will vary, but you'll work across the full software development lifecycle, including:
Building and improving product features across the full stack
Developing with TypeScript and React
Working with APIs, data and backend services
Writing, testing and reviewing code
Investigating bugs and solving technical problems
Supporting clients with technical issues
Working on QA and helping ensure software is reliable and production-ready
Collaborating with experienced developers through code reviews and technical discussions
Learning new technologies and approaches as the product evolves
Because this is a small team, you'll get exposure to much more than a narrowly defined development role. Depending on the project, you could find yourself working with Open Banking, fintech, APIs, large-scale data processing, native apps and reg-tech.
What we're looking for
We're less interested in your degree and more interested in what you can actually build.
About You:
Degree in a related field
Some experience writing software, whether commercially, academically or through personal projects
A working understanding of programming fundamentals
Experience with TypeScript and/or React, or a strong ability to demonstrate that you can learn quickly
An interest in full-stack development
A genuine enthusiasm for technology and solving difficult problems
The ability to work independently on a task and see it through
The confidence to ask for help when you don't understand something
An openness to having your work reviewed and challenged by other developers
A willingness to work in a fast-changing environment where priorities can move quickly
We'd particularly like to see your code. If you've built an app, created a side project, contributed to GitHub or experimented with something technically interesting, show us. A strong project you've built yourself can tell us far more than a list of qualifications.
You don't need to know everything. We do expect you to be comfortable learning, investigating problems and getting stuck into unfamiliar technology.
The Bigger Picture:
The technology you'll be working on helps regulated gambling operators identify customers who may be at risk and take appropriate action to protect them.
If you want your first or next software development role to give you responsibility, exposure to interesting technology and the opportunity to learn from experienced developers, we'd like to hear from you.
How to apply
Tell us a little about yourself, your coding experience and most importantly what you've built.
If you have a GitHub profile, portfolio, personal project or app you're proud of, send it our way. We want to see how you think and what you can create.
