Service Designer

Job title: Service Designer Rate: £558 per day inside ir35 Contract: 6 months Location: Remote SC security clearance is required for this role Job Summary We are seeking an SC-cleared Service Designer with strong Public Sector and Government Digital Services (GDS) experience to lead the design of end-to-end, user-centred services. You will shape accessible, usable and scalable services that meet both user needs and policy intent, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to support major digital transformation programmes. Responsibilities Lead the service design of end-to-end services that meet user needs and deliver policy intent Design user-centred services ensuring accessibility and usability across digital touchpoints and service journeys Map and analyse complex service ecosystems to identify pain points, opportunities and dependencies Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including policy, operations, product, delivery, system design and UCD Design openly and collaboratively, sharing knowledge with teams and wider communities (where security allows) Map existing online and offline systems and processes using verified information to produce accurate "as-is" views Create service blueprints, journey maps and visual artefacts to communicate service design clearly Facilitate workshops and co-creation sessions with users and stakeholders Align service design with organisational goals, technical constraints and delivery capabilities Advocate for user-centred and inclusive design practices across the organisation Support the development of service strategies and transformation roadmaps Track and document out-of-scope pain points for future delivery consideration Mentor junior service designers and contribute to the wider design community Ensure services are designed for scalability, sustainability and continuous improvement Skillset Required Active SC clearance Proven experience as a Service Designer within the UK Public Sector Strong knowledge of Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and ways of working Expertise in end-to-end service design and user-centred design methodologies Experience mapping complex services and ecosystems Strong facilitation and workshop leadership skills Ability to translate complexity into clear visual artefacts (blueprints, journey maps, service maps) Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills Experience working within multidisciplinary delivery teams Strong advocate for accessibility, usability and inclusive design Ability to balance user needs, policy intent and technical constraints Experience contributing to service strategy and digital transformation initiatives Coaching or mentoring experience is highly desirable If you are interested in this role, please feel free to submit your CV.
