About the Role

We are partnering with a global medical technology company on an exclusive search for an experienced attorney to join their team as a Legal Director for a business accounting for almost 50% of the company’s revenue. This is a remote position and candidates must live within the US.

Reporting to the General Counsel for this business, the Legal Director serves as a key member of the Legal Leadership Team and acts as a strategic legal advisor to senior business leaders across the organization.

This role provides proactive legal counsel and risk management guidance across a broad spectrum of commercial, regulatory, clinical, operational, employment, and strategic business matters within a highly regulated global healthcare environment.

An overview of key responsibilities includes:

  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to executive leadership and business stakeholders, providing strategic counsel on business initiatives, growth opportunities, operational priorities, and enterprise risk management.
  • Partner with the VP & General Counsel for the business in defining and executing the legal strategy.
  • Lead the structuring, drafting, negotiation, and execution of complex domestic and international commercial agreements, which may include supply, manufacturing, distribution, licensing, clinical research, quality, consulting, and strategic partnership agreements.
  • Support M&A activities, including due diligence, deal structuring, integration planning, and post-close execution.
  • Partner closely with Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, and R&D teams to support product development, commercialization, and lifecycle management activities from a legal standpoint.
  • Advise on FDA regulations, healthcare laws, clinical investigations, post-market obligations, and applicable global regulatory requirements impacting medical devices.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to commercial leadership on sales practices, contracting strategies, pricing regulated conditions, reimbursement considerations, and promotional activities.
  • Review and advise on marketing materials, digital initiatives, educational programs, and field-based activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Partner with Human Resources and business leaders on employment-related matters, including investigations, executive employment issues, and policy development.
  • Manage litigation and pre-litigation disputes, working closely with outside counsel to drive efficient, business-aligned outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum of 10–12 years of progressive legal experience, with at least three years at an AmLaw 100 firm and in-house experience supporting a commercial-stage medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences organization.
  • Strong experience across multiple areas including medical device and healthcare regulatory matters, commercial contracting and strategic transactions, clinical research and development, mergers, acquisitions, and business development, employment law and workplace investigations, litigation and dispute resolution, sales and marketing compliance, and corporate governance and risk management.

This is a remote role with 30-35% expected domestic and international travel.

The total compensation package will depend on experience. The targeted salary range is $170,000 - $200,000. Total compensation also includes a short-term and long-term incentive.

The company offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental and vision insurance, paid time off, 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan, and others.
