Home News Business, computing and engineering students get employment advice at Careers Fair Business, computing and engineering students get employment advice at Careers Fair 18 October 2024 Intro UWL’s Placement and Employment Services Team hosted a Business, Computing and Engineering Careers Fair on Tuesday 8 October to support students and graduates from the Claude Littner Business School (CLBS) and School of Computing and Engineering (SCE). Almost 500 students and graduates connected with 28 employers. You might be interested in… Jobs support Main body Final year BSc Air Transport Management student Patricia who has just done a placement year at British Airways (BA) was at the fair telling students about their graduate schemes, placements, and apprenticeships. She said: It was the best year. BA gave me a lot of responsibility and by the end of the year I was managing projects. They are looking for people with personality, drive, ambition, and motivation rather than a specific degree." Hannah, recruitment coordinator for IT data consultancy and social enterprise Auticon, explained: We are here looking for autistic students and graduates for roles as data consultants in flexible and supportive work environments in data science, cyber security, analytics and AI,” Heathrow Airport was at the fair to tell students about their graduate schemes, one of which is a rotational scheme where you undertake three six-month placements, enabling you to acquire essential leadership, commercial and project management skills. Vanessa from Heathrow said: We have three schemes available for graduates and those in their final year. One is an engineering scheme open to engineering students, but our procurement and rotational schemes are open to any student, whatever they are studying.” International Business Management student Amy commented: The fair gave me a good insight into where I see my career going. I’m interested in doing an internship with GAIN (Girls Are Investors) who offer training in investment management.” Other employers at the Fair included BUUK Infrastructure, Enfuse Group, Jackson Civil Engineering, John Sisk & Sons, Mace Group, and Transport for London. Cyber security industry experts from ISC2 and Cognizant delivered bespoke 1:1 CV and interview technique sessions to 16 computing students. After the fair, they delivered an insightful employment and skills talk to around 50 computing students covering topics such as the future trajectory of cyber security, the changes with AI and application advice for students and graduates wanting to break into the industry.
