Student Intern - TX

The Student Intern will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Arrow ’s programs. Student Interns pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a Master's degree in Counseling/Psychology and Social Work will have the opportunity to rotate through the various programs offered throughout the agency to understand all roles in our child placing agency related to social work services for children and families involved in the child welfare system. Except for Counseling and Psychology Majors, depending on their experience and qualifications, all others will rotate within different programs. Interns will be exposed to both general and clinical levels of social work (depending on the focus of study and level) via shadowing and supporting the Professional Case Management Staff and Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHPs) focusing on client advocacy, supportive case management, and skill-building services as well as attending court hearings/adoptions and collaborating with the treatment team (CASA, attorneys, CPS Workers, etc.). This is an unpaid internship with a specific start and end date.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

• Work with staff in providing case management, advocacy, skills training, and other supportive services to children and families.
• Provide support in conducting home visits, studies, caregiver trainings, treatment planning, case consultations and other staffing related to cases assigned.
• Assist in providing individual and/or group skills training through evidence-based curriculums.
• Observe and assist with intake assessments and discharges as needed.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings.
• Working in a team environment. This includes providing information or input about families to staff.
• Attend assigned individual and group supervision meetings.
• Review and enter documentation in client charts.
• Perform basic filing and organizing duties related to the current program rotation.
• Research information to improve client outcomes or strengthen procedures.
• Be able to travel to and provide services in individual client homes/schools or treatment centers.
• Interns may be assigned special responsibilities and/or duties in accordance with their qualifications and abilities at the discretion of the Internship Coordinator.
• Master’s Level Mental Health Counseling/Psychology and Advanced Social Work students will provide quality care and support to clients, and their families by shadowing and assisting qualified mental health professionals.
• Ability to promote a caring and respectful attitude toward service recipients, staff, and other volunteers and interns, respecting privacy and confidentiality.

High school degree or equivalent required. Must be actively enrolled in an accredited university/college program to receive credit, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Clinical Mental Health, Human Services, or related field preferred.
