About the Role

<p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p>Virginia Literacy Partnerships provides support to school divisions across the Commonwealth in their efforts to implement evidence-based literacy instruction. The VLP office supports VALLSS administration, professional development for teachers, administrators and staff with the goal of improving student reading outcomes.</p><p></p><p><span>The Virginia Literacy Partnerships (VLP) Office within the </span><a href="https://education.virginia.edu/faculty-research/centers-labs-projects/center-advanced-study-teaching-and-learning-castl" target="_blank"><span>Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL)</span></a><span> in the </span><a href="https://education.virginia.edu/" target="_blank"><span>School of Education and Human Development</span></a><span> at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for </span><b><span>VLP Literacy Coach</span></b><span> to join our team. This position is based in Northeastern Virginia, and travel will be required to visit school divisions and provide professional development support several times per week and for several in-person regional trainings per year. </span></p><p></p><p><b>Responsibilities</b></p><ul><li><span>Assist senior team members in creating professional development materials and webinars focused on supporting K-8th Grade students</span></li><li><span>Support other literacy coaches in their knowledge and mastery of professional development materials </span></li><li><span>Assist teachers, schools, and school divisions to gather, utilize, and analyze multiple data from assessment tools and assist leaders and teachers to use this information to improve instruction </span></li><li><span>Coordinate multiple simultaneous tasks of varying complexity, with demonstrated accountability, and excellent attention to detail while implementing flexible problem-solving skills</span></li><li><span>Collaborate with senior team members to proactively identify, define, and prioritize problems faced by literacy coaches in the field </span></li><li><span>Assist in tasks related to ongoing research and development activities</span></li><li><span>Must be able to travel to schools around Virginia as a part of regular responsibilities</span></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Minimum Qualifications</b></p><p></p><p>Education: Bachelor's degree required</p><p>Experience: 5+ years of relevant professional experience required</p><p></p><p><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li><span>Master’s Degree in Reading/Literacy, Education, or a related field strongly preferred </span></li><li><span>Reading Specialist endorsement strongly preferred </span></li><li><span>Content knowledge of science-based reading acquisition and evidence-based practices </span></li><li><span>At least five years of experience in an early education environment (K-3, 4-8)</span></li><li><span>Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact effectively with a diverse team of internal and external constituencies</span></li><li><span>Experience with coaching, consulting, technical assistance, and/or training adult educators and leaders in individual and group settings</span></li><li><span>Strong desire to learn new skills and abilities and to continuously improve practices. High attention to detail and timelines.</span></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Physical Demands</b></p><p>This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.</p><p></p><p><b>Salary Range  </b></p><ul><li><span>Full-time position with an anticipated range of $75,000 - $80,000, commensurate with education and experience.</span></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Position Type & Work Location</b></p><ul><li>This is an exempt-level, benefited position.
