JOB TITLE: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation – Recreation
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
HOURLY RATE: $16.25-17.50
POSITION SUMMARY:
Monitor and maintain the safety of customers, patrolling and enforcing facility rules, general cleaning and daily maintenance of pool facilities and locker rooms, instructing swimmers in swim school, and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
Assist other staff with maintaining the safety of customers
Assists pool manager with opening and closing procedures
Patrol pool facilities and enforce facility rules
Assist pool manager with public inquiries, concerns, and complaints to resolve issues and improve services
Instruct students in swim school
Department assistance as needed.

Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to understand and follow oral &/or written instructions.
Ability to express maturity in thought, work habits and responsibility.
Ability to establish and maintain effective & courteous working relationships with young people, their parents, other park staff, community organization partners and the public.
Ability to act as a role model for young children.
Ability to safely operate large vehicles in high traffic areas, interstates, country roads, and city roads.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to work long hours outdoors, especially summer temperatures.
Must be available mornings, days, nights, and weekends.
Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, or squat for long periods of time.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to use close and long-distance vision and adjust between the two.
Running related to the job duties will be occasionally necessary.
Ability to communicate effectively, included but not limited to speaking, directing, and listening.
MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
Must be at least 15 years of age- Required.
Must be able to prove reliable transportation-Required.
A valid work Permit- Required.
Must be able to pass a background check, (ages 18+)- Required.
American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard certification (upload a copy with the application you submit).
Ability to follow instructions.
Qualities such as trustworthiness, reliability, diligence.
Physical and mental capacity to perform the essential functions of the position.
Ability to read, write and communicate well with others (English).
Available Mid-May through Labor Day. Evenings and weekend shifts are required.
Qualities such as diplomacy, trustworthiness, reliability, and diligence.
PREFERRED QUALFICATIONS
CPR/AED & First Aid certified, or the ability to become certified
Previous experience working with youth is a plus.
