Leeds Arts University is the only specialist arts university in the North of England. We have contributed significantly to the development of arts education for over 170 years, and have developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students and staff.
We are seeking to appoint an independent member to our Board of Governors. The members of the Board of Governors contribute a wide variety of skills and experience to the University, and are leaders in their own fields in either the private or public sector. The Board of Governors have an important strategic and monitoring role, with responsibility for ensuring that the performance of the University is assessed against objectives which the Board approves.
The ideal applicant will have a good business background, with experience of corporate and strategic management. Previous experience in a governance role and an understanding in legal and governance issues would be an advantage but is not essential.
To be successful you must have the ability to positively contribute to Board discussions. Further information about the University’s governance can be found here.
Members of the Board are not paid, but are able to claim for travel and subsistence whilst on University business. Annually, there are normally 6 formal Board of Governors' meetings and two development and discussion sessions. In addition, Governors also have the opportunity to attend external training/networking events and are invited to University events (e.g. exhibitions and Private Views of end of year shows).
The Board operates on a hybrid model, with attendance required on site at least annually.
