Sirius Staffing is seeking an experienced Controls & Automation Engineer for a 12-month contract opportunity in Lenexa, KS.Schedule: Monday-Friday, first shift flex scheduleSummary: This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, programming, and optimizing industrial control systems within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) PLC platforms, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial automation technologies. This position plays a key role in supporting production reliability, implementing automation improvements, and minimizing equipment downtime.Responsibilities:Maintain, troubleshoot, and modify PLC programs using Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) platforms, including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix.Program and support PLCs using Studio 5000 and RSLogix 5000 software.Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain HMI/SCADA systems, including FactoryTalk View SE/ME, Ignition, or similar platforms.Support the complete lifecycle of automation projects from concept, design, installation, commissioning, startup, and handoff to operations.Diagnose and resolve PLC, electrical, instrumentation, networking, and control system issues to minimize production downtime.Develop and maintain technical documentation including electrical schematics, P&IDs, control narratives, wiring diagrams, and programming standards.Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, quality, and safety.Perform preventative maintenance audits on automation and control systems while recommending system improvements.Provide technical support for critical manufacturing systems, including occasional on-site or on-call support as needed.Train maintenance technicians and production personnel on equipment operation, PLC systems, and basic troubleshooting procedures.Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, ISA/IEC, and company engineering standards.Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, reliability, and process optimization.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.3–5 years of hands-on industrial automation or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.Required experience with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) PLC platforms, including:ControlLogixCompactLogixMicroLogixExperience programming using:Studio 5000RSLogix 5000Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as:FactoryTalk ViewIgnitionWonderware (or similar)Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols, including:EtherNet/IPDeviceNetProfibusModbusExperience troubleshooting:PLCsVFDsServo systemsMotor Control Centers (MCCs)Industrial instrumentationSensorsAbility to read and interpret:Electrical schematicsWiring diagramsMechanical drawingsP&IDsStrong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications..Preferred Qualifications: Rockwell Automation Certified Logix Designer (CLD)Experience with ISA-88 Batch Control SystemsManufacturing Execution Systems (MES)ERP integration (SAP preferred)Industrial robotics (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, etc.)Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experienceProcess manufacturing experience in:Food & BeverageChemical ManufacturingPackagingPharmaceutical or Life SciencesIndustrial Control Systems (ICS) cybersecurity knowledge)Sirius Staffing Inc. is an equal-opportunity employer.
