About the Role

About the role:

Justteachers is seeking a full-time Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist provision in the Newark area starting in September 2026 on a full-time, long-term, temporary to permanent basis.
The setting supports pupils with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, learning difficulties and associated communication needs. The provision offers a highly structured and supportive environment focused on positive behaviour approaches, emotional regulation and personalised learning.
The successful candidate will work closely with pupils, teaching staff and wider support teams to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with behavioural, emotional and learning needs
• Implement behaviour support plans and positive behaviour strategies consistently
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and engagement in learning
• Build positive, professional relationships to promote trust and confidence
• Assist with classroom activities and support access to learning
• Respond to and de-escalate challenging situations using appropriate techniques
• Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals
• Monitor, record and report on pupil behaviour, wellbeing and progress
• Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times throughout the school day

Pre-requisites:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs (school, care or similar setting desirable)
• A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting challenging behaviours
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Understanding of behaviour management and restorative approaches
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Right to work in the UK
