Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) / Medical Scribe

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS), also known as a Medical Scribe, to support primary care providers by documenting patient encounters in real time. This role allows providers to focus on delivering exceptional care while you manage accurate, specific, and timely clinical documentation.
As a CIS, you will become an integral member of the care team, supporting value-based care, chronic condition management, ICD-10 and CPT coding, and care gap closure. This position provides extensive on-the-job training in clinical workflows, preventative care, population health data, and team-based careâmaking it ideal for pre-med students and anyone pursuing careers in Health Informatics, Public Health, Medical Coding, or Healthcare Administration.
This role requires a commitment of at least 1â2 years.
Key Responsibilities
Documenting Patient Encounters (~80%)
Join providers in the exam room to observe patient visits.
Document structured notes, including history of present illness, assessment, plan, and physical exam.
Assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes.
Prepare After Visit Summaries.
Consult with providers to ensure accurate, complete documentation.
Clinical Documentation Improvement (~10%)
Request and review medical records.
Leverage population health tools to support documentation quality.
Support Daily Huddles and Clinical Documentation Reviews.
Advise providers on documentation improvement opportunities.
Administrative Support (~10%)
Place orders and referrals.
Address tasks and support provider/care team responsibilities related to clinical documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge
Medical terminology and common medications (pre-med degree or clinical experience required).
Prior clinical experience (shadowing or volunteering preferred).
Previous scribe or transcription experience is a plus.
Skills
Advanced listening and communication skills.
Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows.
Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by patient communities (where applicable).
Abilities
Adaptable to new workflows and quick learner.
Typing speed of 70+ WPM preferred (include typing score on your resume).
Team-oriented and able to take direction while supporting patient care.
Self-starter with excellent attendance and reliability.
Ability to commit 1â2 years minimum in role.
Full-time availability (~40â45 hours/week) with predictable clinic hours.
Compliance with HIPAA and relevant policies.
U.S. work authorization required.
