Our client is seeking an experienced Driver Training & Development Manager to lead and develop driver training, compliance, and performance initiatives across a multi-site transport operation. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring drivers operate safely, professionally, and in line with legal and operational standards.
Working closely with HR, Fleet Management, Compliance, and Operational teams, you will oversee driver recruitment, onboarding, training programmes, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage driver training, development, and onboarding programmes.
Support driver recruitment, assessments, induction, and probation processes.
Ensure all driver training records, licences, Driver CPC requirements, and compliance documentation are maintained accurately.
Manage and support Driver Trainers and Driver Mentors across multiple depot locations.
Monitor driver performance, telematics data, and compliance metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Deliver coaching and refresher training to improve driver standards and reduce infringements and incidents.
Conduct training observations, compliance reviews, and depot visits.
Support incident investigations and implement corrective actions to improve safety performance.
Produce KPI reports and provide performance insights to senior management.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across driver safety, compliance, and operational performance.
Essential Requirements
Valid Class 1 (Category C+E) HGV Licence.
Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
Driver Trainer, Train the Trainer, or equivalent recognised training qualification.
Driver Assessor qualification or equivalent accreditation.
Strong people management, coaching, and communication skills.
Excellent organisational and administrative abilities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and operational systems.
Ability to analyse performance data and identify training and development opportunities.
Desirable
Transport Manager CPC.
IOSH, NEBOSH, or other Health & Safety qualifications.
Experience using telematics systems such as Samsara.
Experience producing KPI reports and working across multiple depot locations.
