About the Role
<h2><strong>Accounting Manager</strong></h2>
<p><strong>Location:</strong> Upper Marlboro, MD<br />
<strong>Work Model:</strong> Hybrid (3 days in office / 2 remote)<br />
<strong>Employment Type:</strong> Full-Time<br />
<strong>Compensation:</strong> $125,000–$150,000 base + 10% bonus</p>
<p>A well-established, PE-backed organization within the manufacturing and distribution space is seeking an experienced <strong>Accounting Manager</strong> to lead day-to-day accounting operations for one of its business units. This role reports directly to the VP of Accounting and offers strong visibility to senior leadership, along with long-term growth potential within a broader enterprise.</p>
<p>This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes initiative, and does not require extensive oversight.</p>

<h3><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>Lead daily accounting operations, including <strong>general ledger, AP, AR, accruals, and weekly cash flow forecasting</strong></li>
<li>Oversee and drive the <strong>monthly close process</strong>, including consolidation and segment reporting</li>
<li>Ensure timely completion and review of <strong>balance sheet reconciliations</strong></li>
<li>Maintain and strengthen a strong <strong>internal control environment</strong></li>
<li>Partner with <strong>FP&A</strong> to support performance analysis and operational insights</li>
<li>Develop and enhance <strong>accounting dashboards and KPIs</strong></li>
<li>Serve as the primary contact for <strong>external, internal, and regulatory audits</strong></li>
<li>Support <strong>SOX compliance</strong>, corporate accounting policies, and banking activities</li>
<li>Oversee <strong>sales and use tax</strong>, regulatory reporting, and insurance administration</li>
<li>Manage, coach, and develop accounting staff (including AP-focused team members)</li>
<li>Identify opportunities to <strong>streamline processes and increase automation</strong></li>
<li>Collaborate with operational leaders to support business performance and growth</li>

<h3><strong>Qualifications</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in <strong>Accounting or Finance</strong></li>
<li><strong>CPA preferred</strong></li>
<li><strong>7–10+ years</strong> of progressive accounting experience</li>
<li>Prior experience in an <strong>Accounting Manager, Controller, or Operating Controller</strong> role</li>
<li>Experience supporting <strong>multi-site operations</strong></li>
<li>Background in <strong>manufacturing and/or distribution</strong> environments strongly preferred</li>
<li>Experience in <strong>public accounting</strong> and/or <strong>PE-backed or public company environments</strong> a plus</li>
<li>Strong working knowledge of <strong>US GAAP</strong> (IFRS exposure a plus)</li>
<li>Advanced <strong>Excel</strong> skills required</li>
<li>ERP experience required (specific systems not required)</li>
<li>Proven ability to operate independently in a <strong>fast-paced, low-handholding environment</strong></li>
