Supervises, plans and directs distribution system design activities. Applies engineering principles to design and install distribution system in a safe, efficient and practical manner. Ensures compliance with federal, state and CenterPoint Energy’s codes and standards. Participates as an effective member of Engineering’s Management team and supports achieving CenterPoint Energy’s business objectives.
Essential Functions
Supervises, coordinates and performs design activities including: engineering design, calculations, estimates, studies and coordination of gas distribution facilities installations. Assists in evaluation of system operations and troubleshoots problems.
Supervises, coordinates and prepares economic justifications (concise, factual and conclusive statements of the purpose, merits and necessity) for each project proposed to assist management with evaluation of capital investment. This includes budget items and completion reports for construction projects
Coordinates complex and multi-disciplined engineering projects from design to implementation.
Serves as an expert resource for other engineers
Supervises the development and implementation of structured training programs and conducts work group performance audits to ensure the accuracy of company records and compliance with company policies, procedures and standards and conformance with plans and acceptability of construction charges.
Monitors capital expenditures to ensure recommended projects do not exceed established budgets. Develops reports to periodically track expenditures and to forecast year-end total capital budgets.
Administers policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment for employees by promoting safety awareness and developing safe work habits.
Observes, coaches and improves employee performance by establishing and communi-cating clear expectations and standards of performance. Monitors and evaluates individual and team performance using timely and effective performance discussions. Builds employee capacity to manage their jobs through appropriate delegation of authority. Recruits, hires and develops competent staff to create an effective team environment.
Education Description
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, or other approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
Experience
Requires a minimum of five year's experience in utility design or related project construction design.
Requires a Professional Engineer License.
