Overview
Are you a detail-oriented person with excellent audiovisual and customer service skills who would enjoy supporting faculty in a higher education environment? Join Hillsdale College as an Academic Technologist! The Academic Technologist is part of a team dedicated to providing design and installation services in addition to real-time support of teaching and learning technologies.
This position will primarily assist with support and design of the College’s classroom technology including remote teaching/learning sites and online teaching/learning technology as well as other information technology-related processes, workflows, and resources used by faculty, staff, and students.
Education and Experience
Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of related experience. Experience with hardware installation as well as document development and writing desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job will be considered.

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in hardware installation techniques (advanced audiovisual technology hardware installation preferred)
Foundational understanding of TCP/IP networking in an enterprise environment
Proficiency in recent and current Windows operating systems
Proficiency in current Mac OS
Proficiency supporting Apple iOS devices
Experience using and supporting Zoom or other video conferencing tools in an educational setting is helpful
Proficiency in Microsoft 365/Microsoft Office Suite
Experience working with Google G Suite applications (Sheets, Docs, etc.) is helpful
Proficiency with Help Desk operation and tracking software
Experience with Extron control systems desirable.
CTS and/or Extron certification desirable
Supervisory Responsibilities: Potential for overseeing student employee scheduling and work.

Responsibilities
Academic Technology Operation and Support
Provide break/fix support of classroom hardware including but not limited to projectors, controllers, touchpanels, amplifiers, speakers, etc.
Install classroom hardware/software.
Act as a primary point of contact for classroom hardware installation.
Meet with faculty, staff, and students to observe, listen to concerns, and research potential software, hardware, and process improvements within academic and other settings.
Assist with classroom technology design and academic technology information delivery.
Identify “global” concerns and recommend the incorporation of solutions into training.
Assist, as needed, with related hardware and software setup, documentation, and information delivery.
Flex work time to support evening and weekend instructional and learning activities.
Travel to other locations to install classroom technology and provide support.
Create and build positive relationships with vendors and external contacts to promote collaboration (sharing of best practices and improvement of hardware and software).
Research and recommend hardware and software support options for student computer labs and technology-enhanced classrooms.
Be responsible for classroom and lab equipment inventory.
Provide back-up support for other academic and business software.
Research and solve “how to” software problems in coordination with the Help Desk.
Create instructional documentation to promote user learning of various technologies.
Log trouble tickets as needed.
Student Computer Labs and Classrooms
Support instructional/learning lab upkeep and ordering of supplies as needed.
Support student lab technician employee hiring and management as may be needed.
Support student worker scheduling and payroll.
