Surgery Authorization Representative

$19-24/hr, based on experience

Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Surgery Authorization Representative to join our healthcare team. This role involves verifying insurance benefits, obtaining authorizations, and ensuring compliant pre-registration processes for surgical patients. The ideal candidate will have high-volume healthcare call experience, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent patient service.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1-2 years of medical insurance verification and authorization experience
- General knowledge of medical terminology
- High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate required
- Preferred: typing speed of 30+ words per minute, ICD-9/10 and CPT coding knowledge, excellent customer service and phone etiquette skills, proficiency with common computer applications, and experience in patient interviewing
- Preferred certification: Certified Health Access Associate (CHAA)
Responsibilities
- Verify health insurance benefits and eligibility using electronic systems or by contacting payers directly
- Obtain and follow up on necessary authorizations at least 48 hours prior to scheduled services
- Ensure pre-registration is complete at least 7 days before scheduled procedures
- Advise patients about copayments, coinsurance, and policy limitations, collecting amounts as needed
- Reschedule or follow up with patients if authorizations are not obtained timely
- Maintain accurate and organized documentation of all authorization and verification processes
