Primary SEN Teacher – Specialist School Setting
Location: Shawford, Hampshire
Hours: Full-time | Term time only
Pay: Competitive rate dependent on supply/full role | Temp-to-perm opportunity**
A well-established and highly regarded specialist school in Shawford is seeking to appoint an experienced and dedicated Primary SEN Teacher to join its committed and supportive team. The school provides high-quality, tailored education for primary-aged pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties, complex needs, and autism spectrum conditions.
The setting offers a structured, nurturing environment designed to promote each pupil’s academic progress, communication development, independence, and emotional wellbeing. Classes are small, allowing for personalised teaching and meaningful engagement. Staff work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary framework, alongside therapists and support professionals, to ensure pupils receive holistic and consistent support throughout their educational journey.
The Role
The successful candidate will take responsibility for leading a small class of pupils with diverse and complex learning profiles. You will be expected to:
Plan and deliver differentiated, creative, and engaging lessons aligned to individual education plans
Use a range of communication strategies, including visual supports and structured approaches, to meet pupils’ needs
Lead, direct, and work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants within the classroom
Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, adapting provision where necessary
Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that supports regulation and emotional development
Work closely with families and external professionals to ensure a consistent and child-centred approach
Candidate Profile
Applications are particularly welcomed from experienced teachers who have a strong background in SEND, specialist education, or inclusive mainstream settings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Proven experience teaching pupils with additional needs, particularly autism and complex learning difficulties
Strong classroom leadership and behaviour management skills
A calm, resilient, and reflective approach to teaching
Commitment to inclusive practice and high expectations for all learners
