About the Role

<h3><strong>The Opportunity</strong></h3> <p>A family-run, RCVS-accredited 24-hour small animal hospital in Leeds is seeking an OOH ECC Veterinary Surgeon to join its established night team.</p> <p>This role offers exposure to a complex and varied caseload within a hospital environment that combines first-opinion, referral-level and emergency care under one roof.</p> <h3><strong>Working Pattern</strong></h3> <ul> <li>7 nights on / 14 nights off <li>Night shifts: 8:00pm – 8:00am <li>Dedicated night role <li>Opportunity to locum elsewhere during time off </ul> <h3><strong>Clinical Environment</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Half-hour OOH consults as standard <li>Supported by a dedicated night team: <ul> <li> <p>1 Night RVN</p> <li> <p>1 Night VCA</p> </ul> <li>Receptionist until 10:00pm <li>Twilight RVN support until midnight <li>Part of a wider hospital team delivering gold-standard care <li>Proactive in-house CPD and clinical development culture </ul> <h3><strong>Facilities &amp; Equipment</strong></h3> <p>The hospital is purpose-built and equipped to a high clinical standard, including:</p> <ul> <li>IDEXX in-house laboratory <li>Digital X-ray <li>Ultrasound <li>ECG <li>IM3 dental unit and dental X-ray <li>Orthopaedic surgical kit <li>Endoscopy <li>Tonopen </ul> <h3><strong>Case Exposure &amp; Skills</strong></h3> <p>The night team regularly manages a broad and advanced ECC caseload. With support and training, this includes:</p> <ul> <li>Oesophageal tube placements <li>Seldinger chest drain placement <li>Abdominal peritoneal drains <li>Pigtail urinary catheters <li>TFAST and AFAST <li>Endoscopy <li>Negative pressure wound therapy <li>Urinary catheterisation </ul> <p><strong>Surgical exposure includes</strong>:</p> <ul> <li>Caesareans <li>Pyometra <li>Exploratory laparotomy <li>Enterotomy and enterectomy </ul> <p><strong>Medical caseload commonly includes:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Addisonian crises <li>Diabetic ketoacidosis <li>Severe pancreatitis </ul> <h3><strong>Clinical Support</strong></h3> <ul> <li>In-house certificate holders in surgery, medicine, endosurgery and dentistry <li>Day veterinary team available for complex case discussion <li>Strong cross-cover between day and night teams </ul> <h3><strong>The Ideal Candidate</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Veterinary Surgeon with solid ECC experience <li>Confident in both medical and surgical emergencies <li>Proactive, dynamic and clinically thorough <li>Comfortable working independently overnight while valuing team support <li>Keen to continue developing within ECC or a specialist interest </ul> <h3><strong>What’s on Offer</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Salary<strong> £60,000 </strong> <li>£1,500 annual CPD allowance <li>Certificate sponsorship encouraged <li>Paid professional memberships <li>Contributory pension scheme <li>Free onsite parking <li>Exclusive company discounts and rewards </ul>
